In the distant past, the Fasura family used to be illustrious royals who ruled over the large island of Kitarod, a commonly contested territory near the Lumen-Vesper border. Years of infighting between the family members caused their rule to weaken, however, and after several hundred years, little was left of their political power. While Aidan's mother, Anne Fasura, was pregnant, the island was taken over by Vesper forces in a particularly violent revolt. At the time, Anne was the queen of Kitarod as well as the only living, direct descendent of the Fasura line, and she was forced to flee from her home. She left the region and went into hiding for a few years, during which she gave birth to Aidan.
When her son was three, Anne made the decision to bring him to a trusted relative in the village of Sausetnyur. She planned to keep him there under the care of her distant relative, Zagun Cafli, as she prepared the resources and allies she needed to take back the throne. Unfortunately, she was captured in the middle of this process and brought back to Kitarod, where she was executed. Afterwards, rumours stirred up about the child she had been carrying years ago from an affair, but ultimately, nobody could figure out if the child had been born at all, let alone their potential location. And so, the child's existence soon faded into obscurity, forgotten by the people.
Aidan grew up in Zagun's home, and from an early age, began to help the shepherd with his work. Zagun never talked about Aidan's mother, nor did Aidan particularly remember her, which made things all the easier: Zagun never intended to reveal Aidan's heritage to him, as he didn't want the boy to suffer the same fate as his mother. Shortly after Aidan's powers began manifesting around his fourteenth birthday, a man named Mad Itseflase happened to visit Sausetnyur while on a personal errand. There happened to be a bandit attack on the town that night, which he assisted in quelling. During this, he saved a young Aidan, but not before the boy demonstrated his unusual magical aptitude, sparks of electricity surging from his body. Interested in his potential and amused by how Aidan looked up to him so earnestly, Mad offered to take Aidan back to Rehjolvnatys, the plane of the gods, thinking to find him work that would suit his abilities better than herding animals. Although it was a position that paid well in coin and prestige, Zagun refused. That, however, did not stop Aidan from sneaking out into the night and joining up with Mad anyways.
Once in Rehjolvnatys, it was soon discovered that Aidan was a son of the Elder god of the land, Unog. This fact alone would put him as second in line for the throne of Rehjolvnatys, as most of the other high ranking gods did not have living, direct descendants. Most, except for the god of time and king of gods, Igal, whose son was none other than Mad Itseflase.
Mad served as a mentor to Aidan throughout most of his teenage years. Aidan learned how to live as a halfling did, becoming well versed in academics as well as battle. Despite all his hopes for adventure and new friends, though, he was more lonely than ever. Few that interacted with him ever did so sincerely, as they were all aware of his position in the halfling hierarchy. To add to those troubles, during Aidan's twentieth year, Mad was found guilty of treason with plans to assist the chaos god, Kara. Though the punishment for such crimes was death, Igal did not have the heart to execute his only son, and instead decided to exile him to a svaikgyen, a magically isolated pocket dimension. With that, Aidan had effectively become the first in line to the throne of the gods. His loneliness was only exacerbated from that point, and though he was surrounded by people, he didn't feel as if he had any anyone.
Then one day, Aidan ventured back to Zagun to finally reconcile with him. Once his visit concluded, he would go on a walk in a nearby forest, a habit of his when he wished to reflect by himself. He would hear a distressed cry and follow it to find a girl named Ren, who had collapsed. Taking her back to Zagun to give her treatment, he noticed the strange, dragon-like scales that would occasionally sprout from her face, a symptom he himself had experienced while he was new to shapeshifting. Upon learning of Ren's story, Aidan concluded that he had discovered a halfling and proceeded to take her back to Rehjolvnatys, the way Mad had done for him, hoping it would help her in the long run.
Ren would go on to become his closest friend, to the point where he developed feelings for her and was unsure what to do with himself. But through her companionship as a first step, he found the strength to meet others that cared for him, friends that would prove themselves invaluable in times to come.
